Tag Heuer Watches

Edouard Heuer founded a watch making company in 1860 in Switzerland. He patented his first chronograph watch in 1882. He also patented an oscillating pinion in 1887. The first dashboard chronograph, The Time of Trip, was created by Heuer in 1911 which he patented. The Time of Trip was to be used in aircraft and automobiles. In 1914 Heuer brought out its first wrist chronograph and in 1916 the first stopwatch was released.

In the 1930s Heuer released a clock that could run for eight days without the need to be wound. In the 1930s and 40s Heuer manufactured chronographs for pilots in the German Airforce known as Flieger Chronographs. Later chronographs were made in stainless steel, 14 carat gold and 18 carat gold cases.

Heuer produced watches for Abercrombie and Fitch, the American retailer, in the 1950s. Their range of high profile watches have included some classic innovations over the years. They became the first Swiss watch maker to have manufactured a watch to have been worn by an Astronaut when John Glenn wore a Heuer stopwatch. This was for the first manned spaceflight.

During his presidential campaign Barack Obama was regularly spotted wearing a Tag Heuer series 1500 two tone divers watch. It is believed that he wore this watch from the mid 90s to the 2007. Numerous other celebrities have been spotted wearing a Tag Heuer watch and these include Uma Therman, Tiger Woods and Lewis Hamilton. They have produced such watches as the Monaco and the Carrera.
